“Les Quarts”
"Les Quarts" is a landmark parcel in the village of Rochefort-sur-Loire. Facing South, it is at the centre of a block of three historic plots, ideally situated on the outskirts of the hamlet of Chaume. It takes its name from an ancestral custom, linked to the medieval method of farming ‘aux quarts’ (by the quarter). Indeed, until the French Revolution the lords of Haute-Guerche, farming this vineyard, were paying the Ronceray Abbey with "the best quarter of the harvest"...
Our plot covers nearly half of the 7 Ha of the area, exposed on the Southern slope of the rump. The soils rest on Precambrian schists, which provide finesse and length. A fine bitterness, signature of this terroir, brings complexity and length on the palate.
